Modern Objects Inspired by Antiquity

M.X.ADDISON

I hand-craft modern interpretations of historic architecture to create functional objects d’art. Each piece is carefully modeled in 3D and is faithful to the original structure in every dimension and detail. For inspiration, I have researched and documented the most iconic examples of architecture from the ancients to mid-century modern.

The model you see here is the famous ‘Tower of the Winds’ temple (also known as the Horologian of Andronikos Kyrrhestes). The ancient marble tower was built around 50 BC and stands at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, amid the ruins of a great Roman agora. The tower functioned originally as a water-driven clock and weather indicator, and is one of the oldest and most intriguing artifacts of Western civilization.

This scale model was laser-cut in aluminum and stands approximately 16” tall on a 12” diameter ebonized wood base. It includes an internal Edison light bulb with cloth-wrapped cord, and all electrical components are UL listed. If you would like to purchase a Limited Edition replica of this tower, or if you would like to commission a custom work of art, please contact me at the coordinates below. I use the proceeds from these sales to fund 3D laser scanning efforts to digitally preserve these and other historic structures for future generations.
